Tank & Enclosure

Featuring a dead-front, tamper-resistant construction, the unit is designed for both loop and radial feed applications. Its crowned or domed tank cover minimizes water retention, improving durability and performance in outdoor conditions. The cabinet and tank are manufactured from mild steel or stainless steel and are protected with high-performance corrosion-resistant coating systems that exceed IEEE standards.

For easier transportation and installation, the unit is equipped with recessed lifting provisions and a removable sill. Security and convenient access are enhanced through flip-top or hinged doors fitted with stainless steel hinge pins, captive penta-head or hex-head locking bolts, and padlock provisions. In addition, a laser-engraved aluminum nameplate and NEMA/ANSI compliant safety labels provide clear identification and ensure safe operation.

 
 

Bushings & Connections

The unit is fitted with externally clamped 200 A high-voltage bushing wells, making it suitable for both loop and radial feed systems. It also includes externally clamped low-voltage threaded stud or spade-type bushings to provide secure and reliable electrical connections. Integrated parking stands allow safe positioning of elbow connectors, while tank ground pads and a removable ground strap ensure dependable and effective grounding.

 
 

Safety & Protection

The transformer is equipped with an automatic pressure relief device with provisions for manual operation when necessary. Its dual-fuse primary protection system, featuring a bay-o-net expulsion fuse connected in series with a current-limiting fuse, ensures dependable fault protection and overload indication in compliance with utility standards.

For added operational safety, optional protection features such as a secondary circuit breaker or MagneX® interrupter system are available. The fuse assemblies also incorporate oil-retention and drip-protection features to reduce environmental risk and enhance containment safety.

Fluid & Accessories

The transformer is filled with new, unused electrical-grade mineral oil or Envirotemp™ FR3™ fluid, an ester-based insulating coolant recognized for its fire-resistant and environmentally friendly characteristics. It is equipped with an oil fill and level top plug, as well as a bottom drain plug with a sampling device to support easy maintenance and oil monitoring. Provisions are included for optional installation of a temperature gauge, liquid level gauge, and pressure vacuum gauge as required. In addition, optional under-oil surge arresters and grounding connectors are available to improve system protection and overall operational reliability.

 
 

Performance & Testing

Designed for continuous duty at a 65 °C average winding temperature rise, the transformer is compatible with both 50 Hz and 60 Hz electrical systems. It is engineered to accommodate primary voltages up to 34.5 kV and secondary voltages from 120 V to 600 V. Each unit is subjected to a full range of routine ANSI/IEEE tests, including polarity, ratio, resistance, no-load and load losses, impedance, dielectric, induced and impulse, along with leak testing to verify dependable performance and manufacturing quality. The transformer also meets DOE energy efficiency regulations and complies with NEMA TR-1 sound level standards.
