Premier Transformer has been awarded a key contract to deliver two custom-engineered substation power transformers to support utility infrastructure expansion in Garden City, Kansas. This milestone reinforces Premier’s position as a reliable and responsive supplier for municipal and utility-scale projects across the United States.
Project Overview
Each transformer unit is a 12/16/20 MVA, 34.5 kV – 12.47 kV, three-phase, outdoor, liquid-immersed transformer designed for robust utility-grade performance. These units will provide vital voltage step-down for the city’s growing distribution needs.
Key specifications include:
- Cooling Type: ONAN/ONAF (dual-rated for efficient heat dissipation)
- Primary Voltage: 34.5 kV (Delta)
- Secondary Voltage: 12.47 kV (Grounded-Wye)
- Tap Changer: On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) for real-time voltage regulation
- Monitoring: SEL 2414 ETM, Hydran M2X Gas Monitor, and Incon Tap Position Monitor
- Protection: Comprehensive relay and alarm suite for real-time condition awareness

Accelerated Lead Time Commitment
While industry benchmarks for transformers of this size often exceed 55 weeks, Premier Transformer committed to delivering in just 34 weeks ARO—including design, construction, and full testing. This aggressive timeline was made possible through Premier’s lean manufacturing processes and integrated project management capabilities.
Delivering More Than Just Transformers
This project is a testament to Premier’s growing momentum in the U.S. market and reflects our broader mission: to bring U.S.-grade quality, engineering flexibility, and agile delivery to infrastructure developers under pressure to move fast.
From data centers and renewable energy to utilities and industrial facilities, Premier Transformer is meeting today’s infrastructure demands with speed, precision, and proven reliability.
